Roni ate a crayon

The middle part. Perhaps like real food, is this the juiciest part? I don’t know why or what got into her but she not usually isn’t a newer or eater of non edible items. My girl is sophisticated; enjoys edamame with a little sea salt, broiled chicken, and sweet potato dog cookies, she’s not some gremlin with an anything goes pallet. The number one thing that has changed with Roni since Pepper went to sleep would be her appetite. She eats, yes, but she’s veryyyyy particular. She won’t eat just to eat anymore. Like dogs do, she was always quick to scarf down food or treats because she worried Pepper would beat her to it. She be little but she is fierce when it comes to her grub.                             Roni, girl!  You don't need to eat crayons! I'll meal prep for you, too! Anyhow, we don’t love her new decision making abilities a...

Breakfast for Dinner

Cold weather came to us early here in Florida.  I'm very much enjoying windows open, chili recipes, and scarves on my daily walk.  I got a hankering for hearty and homey and this hit the spot.  Once I got my pic out of the way, I merged this baby and enjoyed all the deliciousness bestowed upon my taste buds. We're still adjusting to life without Pep and it's been difficult.  We're trying to equally remember and grieve but also trying to move forward gradually.  I washed her blankets yesterday and it's the things like that, her smell hitting me in full force, that knock me right off my horse.  So many people have said it doesn't get easier and at this time, I wholeheartedly agree.  Miss our girl real bad. Hoping you all are enjoying the start of a new month with so much possibility. mkh

Pepper Ann Roberts

Last Wednesday we said “see you again” to our sweet, brilliant, beautiful dogter Pepper. We’re hurting and immensely sad but we are grateful for the 14+ years she gave us.   When Hunter chose her from her litter, it was a bit of a Marley and Me situation; he said “I’ll take the quiet, easy going one in the corner with the white on her tippy toes”. It was quickly discovered the true PEP in her step and the amazing and often rambunctious character she possessed. Pepper has been the absolute ideal blend of loyal and spunky while full of mischief and comfort. She has stolen many a sandwiches and ate far too many socks with little to no remorse. To even out her chaos, she cemented herself as a fierce protector and the sincerest friend one could ever hope for. Truly, there isn’t a person in our household who Pepper wasn’t the best friend of. Pepper Ann Roberts, the greatest good bad dog there ever was. We love you and will continue to adore you and celebr...

Pepper Knows

I wonder if pepper remembers her life with just the boy.   Ya know, before she met me, her mother.   I had a friend once say dogs don't have a memory.   They don't understand us, they understand tone.   This friend said you could basically say god awful things to a dog but in an upbeat tone and they would wag their tails and come to you happily.   I call bularky. My girls know so much.   They do understand us.   I mean, we have to spell out some words because they understand so well.   We rile Roni up with certain catch phrases and she's a lunatic.   She's like the scrappy little friend at the bar who jumps on someone's back when you're trying to leave.   We watch her tune in to what we say when we're taking about her or Pepper.   She gets it. So, back to the question at hand, does Pepper remember life when it was her and the boy only?   She and I definitely have a bond; she's my protector and my bear sized pillow,...

#Loyalty

Give a dog your heart and he'll give you his-John Grogan Two of the most loyal, loving creatures right here.  I've said it many times at this very blog space how much we adore our pups, the PepperRoni sisters, but it never gets old to keep expressing it.  What?  You human children lovers can go shave your back now back to idolizing your non-tailed kids now. I got to thinking during a nap recently how dogs know love.  Do they understand words and just not speak them?  Is it simply through tone?  I mean, those that think a dog isn't smart and just knows what you want by tone obviously never heard Cruella De Ville in the evenings when using her normal tone.  Even she sounded sweeter when she took her coat off for the night. These dogs wait for us to get home and are always thrilled upon our return.  Doesn't matter if we're gone 10 minutes or hours.  Hence the picture above.  That's my girls staring down at the front door waitin...

#30 Photos in Between: Chasing Light

My first baby girl dogter, she's special alright. Pepper Anne Roberts is a star and has been since she first came into my life and ate a single grape and then got sick all over our house while I was on campus for a long day. Pepper is a marvel and has been since she pulled the curtains off a window one time because a cell phone was left on the coffee table with a beeping sound and she spazzed. Pepper radiates beauty all day every day and makes it look easy. I love that dog, and her weird antics like hiding in corners when the air purifiers are on. Keep chasing the lights baby princess. Until we meet again, M

Photo Challenge: Pawsibly the Cutest Pet

Oh my girls. They are the best of friends and love each other soooo big. Until of course little Ro decides to boss Pep around too much. Then they chase each other round and round. I suppose it's always the little ones who demand how the situation will go, isn't it? Until we meet again, M

View From Above

Salutations friends and happy Monday to you! It's going to be a good week, am I right? Speaking of... While attempting to get the house in order for the week, I headed downstairs and caught a glimpse of little Miss Roni princess face nestled good on the hot, fresh towels I planned to fold next. Ay yi yi. My dog beauties, they sure know how to get squishy and comfy fast! I must say, it is an awfully cute view from above to stumble upon. Until we meet again, M

Well, looky looky who we have here

I have been absent for a bit, no? I swear it wasn't on purpose. Life has got me moving in several directions and I am so thrilled and thankful! Things have been exciting and busy and keeping me running with every ounce of my being. I love and thrive for it! So in no particular order I have been... In a wedding and taking part in all the wonderful coinciding events leading up to a wedding. Seriously, my good friend got married and it was an AMAZING time from the start of planning all the way through the big day!! I'm sad it's over! But I'll be back to thoroughly blog about that in a day or two; Working on an incredibly and stupendously fabulous special assignment at work; Cooking a whole lot at home-thus cleaning up after working long, happily tiresome days; Baking with my girlfran business partners; Beginning the second phase of the Leadership Academy my company has; Loving my Hunter Bear and of course the Pepper-Roni, even if they were b...

Ode to the dogs...again

One of the most fascinating things to me in all of life, is the impact animals can have on us. Specifically dogs. Now, if you have been to this little nestle in the virtual world before, you have been privy to the love and doting the Munterhegans do on their dogters. These little fur babes really don't care if you have the best or worst day; all they do is care and love on you. Take my Roni. She never lets you eat alone, particularly edamame or green apples. Or go to the restroom alone. Or go to bed without her. In fact, she's very much okay with putting herself in whatever situation that will have her fare best. I guess it's best to say she's always there for you. Literally. Pepper now, she tends to do her own thing in a different kind of way. Clearly the oldest of two, she is a leader for herself and for her sister. She is fearless in most every situation and very protective. Yet, she's sweet and doesn't like when people cry. It's like i...

Thursdays are for the dogs

I mean, who is running this place? Til we meet again, M

My wife Mary and I have been married for forty-seven years and not once have we had an argument serious enough to consider divorce; murder, yes, but divorce, never. -Jack Benny

Hunter and I are celebrating 7 years together this year. Say what?! Time has flown by and to say the least it's been overall enjoyable. I kid, it's a happy nightmare really. The guy is nuts, just like me. Only difference is he hides it with hearty blue eyes and a gracious smile. And he has an overall quieter demeanor. You know the Swiffer commercial with Lee and Morty, the 90 year old couple who clean together? Well, Lee cleans and Morty helps her not fall off the step ladder. Then Lee is chatting away about the Swiffer yelling "MORTY, are ya listenin'" in that adorable Seinfeld-dy accent? And Morty is dozing on the couch pretending he is in fact listening? To the tee, my friends; just a day in the life. With all that said, Hunter and I very different. We agree to disagree often. Nothing catastrophic enough has caused one of us to pull a knife. But as I like to think, never say never. For all the difference however, there are a couple things we are ...

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling

Happy Wednesday, praise the lawd we are halfway through the work week! I cannotcannotcannot wait for the weekend to get here. The pep in my step today I seem to have found is totally generating from this anticipation. Oh and the Oscars hosted by Ellen are also this weekend. Hallelujah all around! So what to say, what to say when you want to blogging blog blog...a list! That always does the trick: 1. Health is an incredibly scary thing to me. I want to be healthy and active and take care of myself but it's still scary that as preventative as you may be, there are things out there to arise on their own. I guess the best practice is to just do what you can to not help the hands of any fate you may encounter otherwise. 2. If I was going into college again for the first time ever, I would major in Interior Design. I love decorating and would appreciate learning certain dynamics to beautify a space precisely and methodically. 3. Hunter and I have had some serious conversat...

It's Friday, I'm in love

Ah Friday, I just love when you show your beautiful face. After a particularly grueling week (I'm fighting bronchitis) I'm happy to bid farewell to it. Today's post is brought to you by feeling better, breathing through one's nose, and my should-be-arriving-any-time-today Kate Spade purse, aka a grad gift to myself. Extra special on this? A more than 50% savings on the ol'gal. Victory is mine shopping gods: Now, on to my edition of things/people I love to acknowledge this Hallmark enriched day: Some homies- One bubsy- Da Dogters- And a wee bit of accessorizing- Much love to all and to all a splendid weekend :) Tim we meet again, Meggie

There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed -Ernest Hemingway

Sometimes it's nice to come to this space and just go. Don't think, don't plan, don't have a picture to go with the outcome. Just be here. It's an open space that offers free range on anything you desire to talk about. Well, then, I suppose I'll go along with it. I'll never understand people who criticize the president. Right, left, protects the rich, protects the poor; this person is our leader. Once elected, bullshit aside folks. Like it or not. As a country united, hence our title, sometimes it's okay to lean off a little and just support. It's like my grandma always says about her kids and grandkids, "I can say whatever I want to them and tell them it's ridiculous what they said or did but I'll be damned if anyone else will." We should all adopt some form of this logic. Not rip to shreds the person or take any opportunity to attack the "other side". I am no political expert nor do I wish/claim to be, but ...

There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.

Man, I am wrapping up my capstone project for grad school this week and I am feeling the stress. Everything we have built over the span of six months comes to this. We did the soft launch already, which wasn't for widespread public distribution, now we go live this Sunday with what you will be sharing and hyping and showcasing and my head is spinning. Exhale. I'm okay, this has been happening quite a bit lately. I wig out, simmer, and maintain. Then repeat. I keep telling myself it's almost over. I am already missing grad school and wondering what I will possibly resume my time with that isn't for school purposes. Maybe I'll freelance more. Maybe pursue a business venture I've had twirling around my mind. What about dance lessons? Playing tennis? How about finally organizing my purse collection and making some steel toed decisions about new homes for them? I know, I'm talking crazy here but I just feel I am going to be so much more organized an...

Do all things with love

Hello to all and to all hello, Wowza, Thanksgiving break was grrreat. We did it all: travel, food, family, friends, laughs, drinks, gatherings, homework. That last part is an eh, so-so feeling. Bitter because neither Hunter nor I could escape homework entirely but sweet because he is finishing up another semester of school and I am finalizing my thesis! In fact, I am taking a much needed break right now and escaping to the blog(see: holy)land to regain what sanity I can conjure up. Oy, I need to lie down for a week after this one kids. Anyhow, we ventured back to my hometown this year to partake in some thankfulness and turkey. I introduced Tori, Hunter's babiest sister, to my happy and loud family. Good news is she survived wonderfully and I think she may even come back for another get together. I think. It was all good, everyone was in funny spirits, which is my favorite part about my family. Boy they can be quite humorous. Inappropriate but still humorous. I woul...
