Time Blocking

When I worked in corporate world, I learned the art of time blocking. Actually, in middle and high school this concept was introduced through classes being structured to a similar schedule; we had A and B days and instead of taking 6 classes every day for a shorter duration, we took three each day, alternating which three, for longer periods of time.  To surmise, I’ve implemented this approach for well over 20 years now!  #YouKnowHowIKnowYoureInYour30s #YouReferenceThingsIn20YearIncrements. Anyhowwww...since I transitioned to work for myself from home, I’ve created a time blocking schedule here as well. It’s typically much more flexible than any other time blocking I’ve been part of, but it’s a good system. When you know what you’re going to do or at least have an idea to begin your day, I find it works well and let’s me start out focused even on days I wake up feeling less than on my game. It’s funny looking back, I never realized in 7th grade block classes, it w...

What I do for a living

I'm feeling the love for my work a tad extra these days.  Truly, I'm grateful to say I am happy 90% of the time when it comes to my profession.  10% spared of course for just plain shitty moments inevitable to occur.  These times are typically reserved for technical issues out of a normal human's control.  #notbitterpartyofone In short, I appreciate getting to do what I love for a living, what I earned my education in, which in today's world isn't all that common BTdubs, and because it affords me the chance to be a creative professional.  I love nothing more than getting creative and letting that flow.  I love applying said free flow to churn said creativity into efficiency.  That part reallly makes me happy. I saw the photo in this post on Uncommon James 's Instagram account and had an epiphany; I see each client as one of these beautiful bouquets full of color and design, ready to be neatly organized and designed to meet a vision, a goal, a d...

Obsessively Grateful and Frazzled

Image via Pinterest         I'm having a tough time today.   I mean it in the best way because it's over good things but man am I frazzled this week!   I'm coming off the tail end of a quick but nasty cold and a new project is kicking my ass.   Needless to say, namaste in bed, y'all. I kid, kind of.   I read too many damn articles on entrepreneurship and I'm told this is normal.   For as many awesome days and exciting developments, you will have down right difficult and staticky days.   Is that even a word?   It just feels right given my groggy frame of mind. Autocorrect didn't flag me or change to "satire" or something completely off like did you mean Zimbabaway? Well...

Toast Toast Toast

I saw this quote and it struck such a chord. How true it is because the want or desire to achieve a goal is the first move to make. Being a business owner for just shy of two years has taught me exactly this sentiment.   No matter how much planning or strategy you put in place, it's about getting up every day and making the toast you want. It's also about when you don't possess the ingredients you exactly want, you redesign the meal.   Ebb and flow at its finest. Anyhow, I'm off to prepare some avocado toast as we speak.   Along with a splash of hot sauce and a kick ass to do list. Let's meet again.

Omg I'm Beyoncé

One of the most satisfying moments creatively is receiving really great feedback.  Leading up to this of course is working very hard and going over revisions and deadlines extended and hold ups and then progress and ultimately redesign and finalization. This is something Hunter and I both enjoy because the creative process defines you further in our field.  You work to understand ideas from clients and bring that to life and from the word hello it's enthralling.  I love consulting with someone and that developing into a full blown collaboration because the process is magical. I adore amazing our clients and seeing them smile and hearing them express we got their vision right.  I hope the awesome continues.  But not just hope, we're working for it every single day. Talk soon, stay creative, Megan

Working for Social Cap

My new professional life is in full swing.  I am so so grateful to start every day brewing a cup of fab and fierceness, getting into the office (across from my bedroom), checking the list made the end of day before for organized reference on a new morning, and grinding on multiple projects because if I or Hunter doesn't who's going to do it??? Life of a small business owner and I wouldn't change it for a minute! We are growing and sorting what works, what can use improvement, we hustle and flow.  It's the stuff dreams are made of honestly.  I don't take it for granted and recognize that I've been working towards this my entire working career and for that I am so appreciative. This far in my life, my professional background is in hospitality, higher education, editorial journalism, and corporate communications.  I value these experiences and industries tremendously but I gotta say, I will work 80 hours a week for ourselves instead of 40 for anot...
