To plant a garden

I love this quote. It’s presently my background image because I enjoy it that much. I found on Instagram somewhere (I forget which account-oops, bad blogger!), and I truly love positivity and this quote here, this one right here, embraces my sentiments exactly. Nowadays it’s a fast paced world, everything soars by at record speed. In the words of my favorite teenage delinquent and yours, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around every once in a while it’ll pass you by.” - Ferris Bueller Dear God, please tell me no one here is so young they don't know this without googling(!!). This message gives me a gusto for go getting while taking a few steps back to breathe and be. Gardening, while not my forte, is hugely therapeutic for everyone I know who does it so I’m channeling that good good zen zen when I think of this.  Feel inspired by today and get excited for tomorrow, love bugs. mkh

Spring Forward

In Florida we are not often unable to get outside due to the weather prohibiting us. Unlike our northern counterparts and Midwest comrades, we don’t get inundated with icy roads, below freezing temps, and snow blocked streets. Yet, with our own winter climate woes, the idea of hibernation just feels like the natural solution.  Maybe it's partly due to cold/flu season and everyone is miserable with the bronchitis, the sinusitis, and "just a nasty head cold".  Come on, we all know or are the someone with the lingering head cold that just won't stop because people don't wash their hands or don't cough into their elbow like decent humans and it's brutal.  Ugh, woof just recapping it. But I'm ready for the light of day to stay longer into the evenings and for the urge to get out and enjoy the great outdoors to be in full swing!  I enjoy this time of year in Florida because, well, who wouldn’t?  We live where other people vacation and retire to. See ab...

January health was rough

*This is a post I wrote at the end of last month and am just getting around to posting :) I’m exhausted. Not to be all redundant on feeling crummy, but I am just readddyyyyy to not feel headachy and mucus-y and cough-y and be short fused and impatient. I’m struggling, y’all. I am a doer and have so much I like to accomplish in a given day and this is just the pits. Okay, okay. I’m whining again and I am blessed it’s just a winter bug and this too shall pass. It’s just weird how this time of year goes with the ickiness of being sick. Dark, gloomy, overall feeling of hibernation; it’s all a perfect storm for being “under the weather”. One of my creative writing professors would ding me for such an obvious metaphor/cliche association. Yet, still true. I have formed a rash. That’s a newly developed aspect of my ailments. I am allergic to the antibiotic I was prescribed and ugh. God bless those with ailments regularly resulting in hives. I am so uncomfortabl...

Sick and Stir Crazy

I am going stir crazy from being cooped up in the house sick. Like, okay, sometimes when you get a little run down and take a little TLC down time and it feels good and let’s you get back to new in no time. Well, I’m talking the hacking, coughing, sneezing, headachy, clogged ears, sore throat, oh perfect timing because I have a zillion things to do kind of down. Ick. I got up yesterday and started doing stuff in my kitchen and had to lay back down almost instantly because it just was, as pop culture says, “too soon”. Anyhow, I’m trying not to whine too much and appreciate having something that will pass and focus on resting now to get better ASAP. I took a small walk outside today and that was hard but good. Hard because I haven’t been keeping up with my usual routine; I typically walk 3 miles at minimum a day and have now missed a chunk of time off between having a little bug right after holidays, Florida having freakishly cold weather making it unbearable to be out in...

2018

Feeling ready and excited for what’s next and at peace with what’s been. I believe 2017 was a really really great year. I achieved a lot of goals like practicing mindfulness more, living with grace, and working smarter not harder. It feels freeing and joyous almost to look back on a soon to be old new year and say damn, I rocked my intentions I set for 2017. Hunter and I got married this year and it was pretty amazing. We celebrated being together for 10 years first and then hosted a wedding dinner party to commemorate. We could not be happier with how everything turned out. Food was delicious, all our favorite humans were in one space, and that space came together to represent what we envisioned all along. Love that 2017 is the year of the #VeryMarriedMunterhegans. And honestly, not much has changed; he still leaves socks just outside the hamper and I still update his daily to-do list 3 times. 2017 was also difficult. My mom injured herself at work and spent the ...

Chaos in Crowds

It's crazy how much I don't like going into stores during certain times anymore.   And by certain times I mean mostly anytime between open and close.   I kid mildly, but really I've come to have a real distaste for running into a Target on a Saturday.   We have a good sized town center 4 miles from my house with most every basic need and then some for retail options.   I've always loved this lovely outdoor mall but in recent years, it takes a lot for me to go to it any ol'time of day. My ideal time to frequent it is during the week on maybe a Monday, Tuesday, or a Wednesday between the hours of 8am and about 1pm.   Crowds are minimal, those that are there also seem to be on the same wavelength of appreciating less chaos, and inventory is at peak.   This.   This is when it exudes its holy land esque style for me. Hunter has never been one much for store hopping, here and there of course, but he's quite content setting me loose to handle a...

I glitterally can't

Some days you wake up with the best intentions and the highest spirit for what's to come in that very special 24 hour window of time.   And some days you must employ your feel good exercises a little extra. I had a day like this very recently; try as I might I kept hitting wall after wall of frustration: -an extensive work project was almost complete and then poof!   It drifted off into the land of make believe, a mere figment of imagination, only to be revisited in my dreams.   -a burner on the stove decided to literally burn up the inner plate liner and created that terrible burnt smoky smell in the house for hours.   This happened seemingly out of no where, no liquid boiled over, no obvious spills, I was heating water in my teapot! -my hair is peeling after recently having it colored.   This happens every so often when I color it, as I'm sensitive to the dye, and really there isn't much I can do besides a deep conditioning treatment...

Prayer of gratitude with a prayer of love

Scrolling Instagram recently, I came upon my fave Kardashian sister Khloe's photo: Via What spoke to me more so was Khloe's message: "❥ Gracious God, in the busy-ness of my day, I sometimes forget to stop and thank you for all that is good in my life. My blessings are many and my heart is filled with gratefulness for the gift of healthy living, family and love. Lord, thank you for walking with us through the seasons of our lives. I thank you most of all for your unconditional and eternal love. Amen ❥ Kourtney taught me to always start my day with a prayer of gratitude and end my day with a prayer of love!" I am in love with this messaging.  Some days are extra wonderful full of all the things that make you happy.  Other days you have to work at it and your patience is tested approximately 32 times.  All days are a luxury we should never take for granted, though.  I believe in this logic of the Kardashian sisters and I appreciate this lifestyle and mentality...

It's the little things

This adorably humbling little sheet came with stickers I bought for our wedding invites and I must say, it's a lovable and easy exercise to fill this puppy out every few days.  This simple act will remind you to slow it down, give things some thought, and own up to all you have to be appreciative of and for. My mom visited recently and I sent her home with a stack of these as well.  I think it's a nice gesture to incite our gratitude.  I'm always looking to provoke my grateful heart.  Plus, these are super pretty and I love some pretty stationary! What are your answers? mkh

Lose your phone

Hunter's phone decided to stop working for about 5 hours today.   Conveniently in the middle of us doing a heavy amount of digitally based work from said phone.   So that's awesome when it happens. Actually, it provided a fantastic observation; I enjoyed relinquishing my phone's constant state of availability.   It was a welcome and unplanned digital detox which always lends freedom and clarity.   Like so many of us, I actively use my phone for many work, leisure, and organizational purposes. Phones and technology are wonderful aspects to our worlds and although I founded a business with a high focus on digital engagement and interaction, I am a huge proponent of breaks from it all.   Sometimes I do a workout sans phone-no music or anything, or put it up and away from easy grasp, or in the case of today where I lent my phone to Hunter, I feel a sense of gratitude for remembering to forget about the phone. I reach more for books, feel a less...

What's good, well being?

I'm running around like a lunatic these days.   We have a lot of work going on, we spent time traveling for work and play, and overall we're on the go-go-go.   Whilst running around, I am very much learning what's good for my mind and body.   I try to be aware of how I'm feeling, be it tired, worn down, and essentially ineffective.  I don't much like feeling like I'm chasing my tail so I've narrowed down a few things that help me through and if nothing else, would like to document what works/doesn't in my never ending quest to live a fulfilled, dedicated, and balanced life. -Turn the sound down.   That's right; I'm going against the age old "throw the windows down, turn the radio up" recommendation for living in the moment.   I suggest silence.   Or incite gentle chatter among copilots.   Marveling concept I know; enjoy the company you keep.  Either way, it's just nice to hear the sounds of traffic around you, of the win...

Everybody Dance!

While sitting outside at a delicious Greek restaurant over the weekend, a neighboring patron's phone went off to the tune of "Everybody Dance Now".   And I loved it!   What a fantastic reminder to chill out. It really is the simple things in life and I embrace that as often as I can.   A fun song on a cell phone checks the mark in the box of happy things.   What's a feel good song you wouldn't mind hearing any time your phone goes bzzz bzzz with it?
